Flight restrictions in Romanian airspace, 20 to 30 kilometres from border with Ukraine, north of Dobrogea

The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure together with the Ministry of National Defence (MApN), as responsible bodies for the management of the national airspace, have imposed, as of Wednesday, additional flight restrictions in the airspace adjacent to the border with Ukraine in the northern area of Dobrogea, between Sulina and Galati, 20 to 30 kilometres inside the national airspace, up to a height of 4,000 metres.No piloted or unpiloted aircraft are allowed to fly in these restricted areas, except for state aircraft (including SMURD and emergency aircraft)."Against the background of the intensification of Russian attacks on Ukrainian ports on the Danube, measures were necessary to extend the restrictions to ensure a more effective monitoring and control of the use of airspace," the MApN said in a statement.The notification on the increase of flight restrictions - NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) - was sent through official communication channels by the competent civil and military aeronautical authorities, informs the Ministry of Defence.MApN also states that the flight of civil aircraft in the airfield control area of Tulcea airport are not affected.Flight restrictions in the airspace adjacent to the entire border with Ukraine have been imposed since May 2022, after the outbreak of the war of aggression by the Russian Federation against Ukraine, of 8 kilometers inside the national airspace, up to a height of 1,000 meters.
