Romania appreciates the fact that ensuring a European perspective for the Republic of Moldova, Ukraine and Georgia will strengthen the economic cooperation around the Black Sea, the Senate's president Nicolae Ciuca said on Monday, after the meeting with the Secretary General of the Parliamentary Assembly of Black Sea Economic Cooperation, Asaf Hajiyev."Economic cooperation on the Black Sea was seriously affected by the invasion of Ukraine by Russia, and the continuation of cooperation between the riparian states must take place on these new geopolitical coordinates. This was the conclusion of the meeting I had with Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, the general secretary of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Parliamentary Assembly. No discussion about the Black Sea region can avoid the war in the neighboring country. Romania is in a special geographical situation, being an EU and NATO member country, which has a border, both land and sea, with Ukraine,'' Ciuca wrote on Facebook. In the context, he pointed out that our country continues to provide Ukraine with substantial aid."From the beginning of the war until now, more than 22 million tons of Ukrainian grain have transited the Romanian territory on the way to the importing countries. Romania appreciates the fact that ensuring a European perspective for the Republic of Moldova, Ukraine and Georgia will strengthen economic cooperation around the Black Sea. Beyond these legal aspects, there is a need to improve the transport infrastructure in the riparian states, in order to increase the speed of exchanges and the competitiveness of companies in the region,'' said Nicolae Ciuca.Other topics of the discussion concerned the achievements of this parliamentary assembly in its last 30 years of existence and the coordinates of its future activity, added Ciuca."On this occasion, the general secretary of the Assembly handed me the medal of honor dedicated to this anniversary, which I accepted on behalf of the Romanian Senate," said Ciuca.
