Gov't approves allocation of 110 million lei to settle May, June expenses for Ukrainian refugees

October 9, 2023

The Government approved on Friday the allocation of 110 million lei for the settlement of expenses in May and June related to accommodation and food for Ukrainian refugees, Government Spokesman Mihai Constantin announced."The Government allocated today the amount of 110 million lei for the settlement of accommodation and food expenses for Ukrainian refugees. This amount will cover the settlement of expenses for May and June of this year, and the money comes from the budget reserve fund available to the Government," Constantin said after the Government meeting.Asked about the payment of expenses for Ukrainian refugees, Mihai Constantin said: "It is a concern and a firm and constant commitment to support refugees from Ukraine."Asked how these people who are waiting for money from the Government live, Mihai Constantin said, "I believe that Ukrainian refugees, who unfortunately chose to leave their homes, live in Romania better than they would at home, in a country invaded militarily by an aggressive foreign force.""Our commitments to support refugees remain high and I think we have also seen on a social level much, much evidence of support. I would also like to remind you that refugees, precisely in order to - if I may make a comment now - compensate for homesickness, are helped to integrate into the labour market in our country and to adapt as best they can, temporarily, to the condition they now find themselves in, that of a refugee as there is a war in their own country (...)," added the Government spokesman.
