PM Ciolacu to US Kerry: Romania is interested in intensifying Romanian-American co-operation to consolidate 3SI

Romania is interested in intensifying Romanian-American co-operation in order to strengthen the Three Seas Initiative (3SI), to promote common economic objectives and regional security, Romania's Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu said on Wednesday at a meeting at the Romanian Government House with US Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry in Bucharest on the sidelines of the 3SI Summit and Business Forum."Romania is interested in intensifying Romanian-American co-operation in order to strengthen the Three Seas Initiative, with the US being a strategic partner of this form of co-operation, and we want to promote common economic objectives and regional security," Ciolacu is quoted as saying in a press statement released by the Romanian government.Ciolacu talked about the importance of carrying through projects that increase the degree of interconnectivity in the 3SI region, such as Via Carpatia and Rail-2-Sea.He also voiced Romania's interest in gearing 3SI towards energy on low carbon emissions and renewable, nuclear and hydrogen-based energy.He mentioned the desire of some major US companies to make new investment in Romania, voicing hope that the 3SI Business Forum will contribute to such investment being implemented.At the same time, the two officials discussed regional security, with Kerry thanking Romania for its multidimensional support to Ukraine.Ciolacu reconfirmed Romania's support for Ukraine as long as it takes, and thanked, in his turn, the US for its firm support for Romania's security reflected in the increase of the US military presence in Romania and also in a firm message of attachment to Article V of the NATO Treaty.He reconfirmed Romania's interest in working closely with the US to achieve the objectives of the Black Sea Strategy of the US Administration.At the same time he reconfirmed Romania's desire for progress with the inclusion of Romanian nationals in the US Visa Waiver programmeso that in 2024 the necessary conditions to achieve this goal will be met.
