A quarter of the population was not connected to the public water supply system last year

  The population connected to the public water supply network accounted for 74.9% of Romania’s usually resident population in 2022.   The population connected to the public water supply network   In 2022, the population connected to the public water supply network amounted to 14,277,262 persons, accounting for 74.9% of Romania’s usually resident population, 99,455 persons more than in 2021. The increase was determined by the connection of the population to the newly built water supply networks.   At development region level, in 2022, the highest share of population connected to the public water supply network in the total usually resident population was reported in the Bucharest-Ilfov region (94.1%), followed by the South-East region (89.5%). The lowest level of connection was recorded in the North-East region (50.7%), followed by the South-West Oltenia region (63.4%).   Water supply   In 2022, the volume of water supplied was 1,937,909 thousand m3 , about 540,539 thousand m3 more than in 2021. The sharpest rise was reported in agriculture, the amount of water supplied increasing by 464,177 thousand m3 .   The highest quantities of water supplied were reported in the hydrographic basins Buzau-Ialomita (31.4%) and Arges-Vedea (16.1%).
