The Action Plan for the National Circular Economy Strategy has been adopted by the Government in Bucharest, thus fulfilling one of the milestones of the Waste Management Reform of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). According to a press release of the Department for Sustainable Development of the government, the action plan for the National Strategy regarding circular economy presents the vision and the concrete actions on short, medium and long term (2032), the role of the public and private entities, and the public in general as well as the degree of their involvement in the implementation and allows the government of Romania, through the Committee for coordination for circular economy of Romania, to initiate coherent measures to develop good governance and in order to strengthen the basis of the circular economy. The National Circular Economy Strategy identifies seven economic sectors for which the full potential of the circular economy is to be exploited, namely: Agriculture and Forestry; Automotive; Construction; Food and Beverages; Packaging (glass, paper and plastics, etc.); Textiles; Electrical and electronic equipment, batteries and accumulators. To these economic sectors are added Waste and Water, as well as a cross-cutting area dedicated to activities supporting circular economy measures (e.g. promoting responsible consumption and environmental education; developing a digital platform to track and communicate on the implementation of circular economy actions, performance indicators and other relevant information). The development of the Circular Economy Action Plan (CEAP) by the Department for Sustainable Development, in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, Water and Forests (MMAP) and the Ministry of Economy, Entrepreneurship and Tourism (MEAT) was carried out within the framework of a project funded by the Technical Support Instrument managed by the European Commission's Directorate-General for Structural Reforms - DG Reform. The overall objective of this strategy is closely linked to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the UN 2030 Agenda and the global climate targets, as well as the new European Union (EU) targets of the ECAP, in line with the principles and actions promoted under the EU Green Pact.
