Romania and Portugal will cooperate within a Work Group in the field of energy

November 9, 2023

Romania and Portugal will cooperate within a Work Group in the field of energy, after a Memorandum of Understanding was signed in Lisbon on Monday between the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Action from the Portuguese Republic and the Ministry of Energy from Romania, informs the Ministry of Energy, in a press release quoted by Agerpres.   According to the cited source, the Memorandum was signed in the presence of President Klaus Iohannis and Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Costa.   The Minister of Energy, Sebastian Burduja, mentioned that the establishment of this Working Group “represents an excellent opportunity to exchange expertise and experiences between the two states”.   “Our goals are similar in terms of the energy transition and we addressed several topics of common interest: pumped storage hydropower projects, including Tarni?a-L?pu?te?ti; offshore wind energy in the Black Sea and the Atlantic Ocean; contracts for difference to stimulate investments in green energy and the predictability of the long-term market. There are just as many concrete opportunities for collaboration, starting from the same understanding of the moment we are going through and for which we need safe, affordable and green energy – in that order,” emphasized  Klaus Iohannis.   The Minister of Energy participated, between October 8 and 9, 2023, in an official visit to the Portuguese Republic, together with the delegation of the President of Romania, Klaus Iohannis.   “The memorandum provides for the establishment of a Working Group, with the role of monitoring and implementing the activities agreed by the signatories. Also, being constituted at a technical level, the Working Group will identify other topics of mutual interest and cooperation. Both Romania and Portugal  are at the forefront of the current energy policy, in addition to ensuring security and capitalizing on the potential for solar, wind and other renewable energy, leading to a high potential for bilateral cooperation,” the press release states.
