Tourism: Greece was the most wanted summer destinations for the Romanian tourists

November 22, 2023

Greece as a touristic destination, either the islands or the resorts on the continent, was during the summer season of this year at the top of the Romanian tourists preferences, the agents having in many cases all places sold out before the beginning of the summer. The sales of package holidays for Greece started at the beginning of the year, so that in May there was no offer left, stated Madalina Balaiban, the owner of Hello Holidays. There were also tourists fond of all-inclusive holidays in Turkey who this year preferred Greece but who would have liked to find the same kind of services, all –included. There were also agencies who mentioned lower sales for the package holidays in Greece, an explanation being that of price increase."We have been tour operators on Bulgaria for years, but this year Bulgaria fell because they had very high prices, Greece too, we sold very thin," said Luminita Matei, general manager at Ecovoyage.   Greece's tourism revenue hit a record in the first seven months of 2023, according to official data, while there is solid demand for travel in the autumn period, including November.   The data supports estimates that there will be around 35 million foreign visitors this year as a whole and tourism revenues will exceed €20 billion, surpassing the previous record level of €18.17 billion set in 2019.   According to a study, the Central Bank of Greece estimates for this year income from tourism of 21 billion euro, an advance of 15.6% against 2019 when the income was 18.17 billion euro and 19.1% as compared to 2022 when the income was 17.63 billion euro.
