The government approved, in Friday's meeting, the payment of a financial contribution worth 1.3 million euros in support of the populations of Turkey and Syria, as a result of the February 6 earthquake.The payment of these amounts was assumed by Romania within the International Conference of Donors. Thus, the budget of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is supplemented by 6.5 million RON, from the budget reserve fund available to the Government.The financial commitment will be directed to the following international organizations:- 150,000 euros to the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) for the benefit of the population of the Republic of Turkey;- 150,000 euros to the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) for the benefit of the population of the Republic of Turkey;- 700,000 euros in the form of a voluntary contribution for the benefit of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) for rapid recovery in the Republic of Turkey;- 150,000 euros to the World Food Programme (WFP) for the benefit of the population of the Syrian Arab Republic;- 150,000 euros to the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) for the benefit of the population of the Syrian Arab Republic.At the same time, the payment of Romania's voluntary financial contribution to the budget of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development for the EURASIA Regional Competitiveness Programme was approved, an amount of 200,000 euros, borne from the approved annual budget of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the year 2023."The voluntary contribution within the programme will ensure Romania's visibility in the context of the OECD accession process and will contribute to strengthening the active profile both within the organization and the OECD members, as well as in relation to the partner countries. Considering Romania's constant support to the Republic Moldova and Ukraine, joining the ECP programme also represents a continuation of the multidimensional support provided by Romania to the two states, including through involvement in various activities of the programme, contributing to the economic development in the neighbourhood," the Government informs.
