MAE reacts to the spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs

December 4, 2023

The spokesperson for the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE), Radu Filip, responded to the spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zaharova, who referred to the Moldovan language, the former having stated that there is scientific evidence that it does not exist, being only the Romanian language. The spokeswoman for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zaharova, sent a message on Friday on the occasion of the 350th anniversary of the birth of Dimitrie Cantemir, who "made a great contribution to preserving and strengthening Moldovan statehood and national identity, as well as to the development of Russian-Moldovan relations"."Moldova is a country with a rich and ancient history and culture. The formation of its statehood dates back to the middle of the 14th century. Some European states and languages did not exist at that time. The first book containing the term 'Moldovan land' dates from 1360. The formation the Moldovan language dates back to the middle of the last millennium. In the 16th century, the first dictionary appeared, the writing of which was based on the Cyrillic alphabet. Literary monuments from the 17th century in the Moldovan language have been preserved," said the official from Moscow, on this occasion."We remind Mrs. Zaharova that it was Prince Dimitrie Cantemir who clearly wrote, even in a book published in Saint Petersburg, that the inhabitants of the principalities of Wallachia and Moldova speak one and the same language. It is a solid and undeniable scientific proof, from beyond the centuries, that the so-called ?Moldovan' language does not exist. There is only the Romanian language", replied the spokesperson for the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a message sent on Friday.
