Eurostat: Slovenia, Poland and Romania, the most significant advance in the EU of construction works, in September

In September 2023 compared with August 2023, seasonally adjusted production in the construction sector increased by 0.4% in the euro area and by 0.5% the EU, according to first estimates from Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union.   In August 2023, production in construction fell by 1.1% in the euro area and by 0.8% in the EU. In September 2023 compared with September 2022, production in construction decreased by 0.3% in the euro area and increased by 0.1% in the EU.   Monthly comparison by construction sector and by Member State   In the euro area in September 2023, compared with August 2023, civil engineering increased by 1.5% and building construction by 0.2%. In the EU, civil engineering increased by 1.1% and building construction by 0.3%.   Among Member States for which data are available, the highest monthly increases in production in construction were recorded in Slovenia (+7.4%), Poland (+3.6%) and Slovakia (+2.3%). The largest decreases were observed in Hungary and Romania (both -1.9%), Portugal (-1.2%) and Austria (-0.9%).   Annual comparison by construction sector and by Member State   In the euro area in September 2023, compared with September 2022, building construction decreased by 0.3%, while civil engineering increased by 2.5%. In the EU civil engineering increased by 2.8% and building construction decreased by 0.1%.   Among Member States for which data are available, the highest increases were recorded in Slovenia (+32.1%), Poland (+13.8%) and Romania (+10.9%). The largest annual decreases in production in construction were observed in Finland (-6.2%), Spain (-6.1%) and Hungary (-6.0%).
