The Russian government accepted the proposal of the Russian MFA to denounce the agreement on the opening of the Romanian consulate in Rostov-on-Don

  The Russian government has accepted the proposal of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to terminate the agreement regarding the opening of the Romanian Consulate General in Rostov-on-Don. Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin has signed the order to this effect, as announced Monday evening by the official news agency TASS. According to the source, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been instructed to notify the Romanian side about this decision.   “In accordance with Article 37 of the Federal Law on International Treaties of the Russian Federation, the proposal of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to terminate the agreement between the Russian and Romanian governments regarding the opening of the Consulate General of Romania in Rostov-on-Don, dated September 22, 2005, concluded in the form of an exchange of notes, is accepted,” states the order published on the official legal information portal of the Moscow government.   Moscow’s decision comes as relations between Romania and Russia have significantly cooled following the Russian invasion of Ukraine, with Bucharest vehemently condemning this act of aggression.   Last week, the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that Romania joins international efforts to expose and condemn Russia’s attempts to interfere in the political and electoral processes of democratic states.   Additionally, earlier this summer, the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs requested Moscow to reduce the diplomatic personnel working at the Russian Embassy in Bucharest by 40 individuals. In response, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that “Russia will respond accordingly.
