Bulgaria, Romania and Turkey plan to conclude a cooperation agreement for demining the Black Sea next week, Bulgarian Defense Minister Todor Tagarev announced Thursday evening, quoted by EFE. “The war in Ukraine, started by Russia, involves risks for our territory, for the security of maritime transport,” Tagarev explained the reasons that led to months of negotiations to reach this agreement. In order to “minimize these risks”, the naval forces of the three coastal countries will participate in clearing the mines, added the Bulgarian minister, quoted by the BNR public radio. Tagarev did not provide details about the terms of the agreement or the exact date of its signing. Instead, in Ankara, the Turkish Ministry of Defense also revealed on Thursday that, “on January 10-11”, an agreement will be signed with Romania and Bulgaria regarding the joint force between the three NATO member states, with access to the Black Sea, which has with the aim of removing sea mines that reach the territorial waters of the three countries.
