Over 7,000 foreign companies established in Romania in 2023

The number of companies with foreign capital newly established in Romania decreased last year by 4.86%, compared to 2022, to 7,010 units, according to data centralized by the National Trade Register Office (ONRC).   The more than 7,000 new companies had a subscribed capital in the total amount of 125.66 million dollars, increasing almost three times compared to the subscribed capital of companies registered in the period January-December 2022, of 45.56 million dollars.   In December 2023, 563 new companies with foreign participation in the share capital were registered. Depending on the fields of activity, the most registrations were registered in wholesale and retail trade, car and motorcycle repair (22.38% of the total), professional, administrative, scientific and technical activities (22.02% of the total) and transport, storage and communications (15.99%).   At the end of December 2023, there were 251,226 companies with foreign participation in the share capital in Romania. The value of the subscribed capital was almost 69.84 billion dollars.   The largest number of companies with foreign participation was with investors from Italy, respectively 52,756 (subscribed capital of 3.31 billion dollars), but the highest value of the share capital belongs to Dutch companies, respectively 13.008 billion dollars, in 6,084 companies.
