Ministry of Defence presents status of procurements, priorities for 2024 during meeting with defence committees

The senators and deputies members of the committees for defence, public order and national security of the Romanian Parliament met, on Tuesday, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Defence, with the leadership of the ministry, for a presentation of the current status of the main procurement programmes and priorities for the current year."The meetings that we organize, periodically, in this extended format are very important, first of all for us, because we have the opportunity to present our priorities and needs in detail. But I think that for you, as parliamentarians, it is also useful to be able to inform yourself, in detail, about the aspects that interest you. The honesty, pragmatism and good faith with which these debates take place every time prove that our mission and interests are convergent in terms of defence and national security," said minister Angel Tilvar, according to a press release of the Ministry of Defence.During the meeting, which was attended by secretary of state Eduard Bachide, the chief of the defence staff, General Gheorghita Vlad, and representatives of some central structures of the Ministry, the main activities carried out by the Ministry of Defense since the last meeting were reviewed in the same format held in September last year.An information briefing was also held on the security situation in the Black Sea region and the prospects for development in the coming period.The MApN representatives also presented the status of the main procurement programmes and the priorities for the current year. In this chapter, the parliamentarians emphasised the need to harmonize the endowment programmes of the army with the needs of development and consolidation of the production capacities of the national defence industry.A distinct chapter of the meeting was represented by the defence legislation. The representatives of both institutions agreed on the concrete ways of harmonizing the procedural aspects, so that the legislative projects reach the Parliament's debate with maximum speed.The representatives of the parliamentary parties in the defense committees asked questions about the main topics on the agenda of the meeting, as well as other topics of interest in the sphere of security and defense, which are under the competence of the Ministry of National Defencse, it is also reported in the mentioned press release.
