Romania needs a strategy for Made in Romania production aligned with Made in Europe agenda

March 6, 2024

Articulating a strategy for Made in Romania production aligned with the Made in Europe agenda and public investments to help less competitive regions improve their performance and recover the gap, are among the recommendations of a study presented on Wednesday at an event organized by the European Institute in Romania (IER)."What is important is that this activity is closely correlated with the industrial policy of the European Union and with the sectoral strategies: solar, wind, hydrogen. So it should not go against Europe's energy and environmental policy, but in tandem with it," said Daniela Staicu, associate professor at the Academy of Economic Studies, Faculty of Business Administration with teaching in foreign languages, coordinator of SPOS 2023 homonymous study. The European Institute in Romania organized on Wednesday an event that is part of the Dialoguri@IER series, with the theme "Consolidation of a resilient European economy on the horizon of 2040. Romania's integration into European value chains".The study was presented by Daniela Staicu and Eugenia Gusilov, founding director of Romania Energy Center - ROEC, co-author of the homonymous SPOS 2023 study.Daniela Staicu mentioned that Romania's economy is 12th at the European level, with a GDP of 286 billion euros in 2022. Compared to the size of the European Union's economy, it represents 1.8% of the Union's GDP.She declared that the main cities that constituted the engines of economic growth of 4.8% from 2022 were Bucharest, Constanta and Brasov.
