  The number of companies that have suspended their activity increased by more than 4% in 2023

  The number of companies that suspended their activity in 2023 was 16,335, up 4.04% compared to the previous year, according to data published by the National Trade Registry Office (ONRC).   Most companies that suspended their activity were from Bucharest, namely 1,979 (up 13.61% compared to 2022), the capital being followed by Cluj county, with 1,057 suspended companies (up 30.17%), Iasi - 739 (up 7.41%), Brasov - 722 (up 2.27%) and Bihor - 671 (up 12.58%).   At the other end of the scale, the fewest suspensions were recorded in the counties of Ialomita - 97 (up 12.79% on 2022), Giurgiu - 96 (down 25%), Tulcea - 101 (down 21.09%) and Covasna - 123 (up 1.65%).   By sector of activity, the highest number of suspensions was recorded in wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles - 3,891 (minus 10.12%), in professional, scientific and technical activities - 1,666 suspensions (plus 13.64%) and information and communication - 1,610 suspensions (plus 38.55%).   In December 2023, there were 2,390 suspensions of companies, most of them in Bucharest (306) and in Cluj (157), Bihor (133) and Iasi (122) counties.
