Investigations in the area of Galati County where the drone that entered Romanian national territory overnight between Saturday and Sunday was shot down Sunday afternoon, the Ministry of National Defence (MApN) informed on Sunday.'The aerial and ground reconnaissance mission carried out by joint teams from the Ministry of National Defence and the Ministry of Interior in the impact area between the localities of Baleni and Cudalbi, Galati County, concluded on Sunday, August 16, during the afternoon. Following the investigation, fragments of the interceptor missile were discovered and safely neutralized by the EOD team, as well as fragments of the drone shot down earlier this morning, which were collected by forensic specialists,' MApN stated.A drone that entered Romanian national territory during the night from Saturday to Sunday was intercepted and destroyed by two Spanish F-18 fighter jets in Galati County, Minister of National Defence Radu Miruta informed.'During the night, another drone entered the national airspace without authorisation and was shot down. At 4:44 am, the target was detected entering Romanian national airspace, 24 km north of Galati, at which point two Spanish F-18 fighter jets, which had already been scrambled as a precaution, received authorisation to engage. At 5:01 am, the drone was intercepted and destroyed between the localities of Baleni and Cudalbi, in Galati County, in an unpopulated area,' Radu Miruta said in a Facebook post. The other drone discovered on Friday in the area of Plauru, Tulcea County, was neutralised on Saturday through a controlled detonation carried out safely by a specialised team from the Ministry of National Defence, the institution said in a press release.The drone found at Plauru was the second one discovered in Tulcea County on Friday. The first was found near the locality of Greci, in the Macin Mountains, where traces of combustion were also identified over a limited area.On Thursday, another drone was discovered near the breakwaters in the seaside resort of Costinesti.The intensity of attacks on the Ukrainian front near the border with Romania has been unprecedented in recent times, while the Ministry of National Defence's radars detected more than 100 drones in the vicinity of Romanian airspace over the past 96 hours, Defence Minister Radu Miruta said on Friday evening.
