Acting Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan held a phone conversation on Wednesday with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Lithuania, Mindaugas Sinkevicius, focusing on bilateral relations, security and defence cooperation, and key European issues relevant to both countries.According to a Government statement, Bolojan congratulated his counterpart on taking office and underlined that Romania and Lithuania enjoy very good relations and share similar positions on major European dossiers - from strengthening NATO's Eastern Flank to support for Ukraine, the Republic of Moldova, and EU enlargement."Regional security and defence cooperation were among the main topics of discussion. Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevicius thanked Romania for its contribution to NATO's Baltic Air Policing mission in Lithuania and for its support in strengthening regional security. The two prime ministers also discussed incidents affecting the region's air and maritime space. In this context, Ilie Bolojan noted that Romania is pursuing the consolidation of its air-defence capabilities and that allied support remains important. The Romanian prime minister also stressed the need to keep the Black Sea on the European security agenda," the Government said.Another topic was Lithuania's upcoming EU Council Presidency, scheduled for January - June 2027.Lithuania's priorities include strengthening European security and defence, advancing EU enlargement, boosting competitiveness, internal security and reinforcing the Union's democratic resilience. Support for the Republic of Moldova and continuation of the EU enlargement process will also feature on the presidency agenda, the Government added.Economic relations were likewise discussed."The two officials noted the evolution of bilateral trade, which reached nearly EUR500 million in 2025 - the highest level so far - with data from early 2026 showing continued growth. They agreed there is further room for developing economic ties, including in areas such as energy, financial services, transport and logistics, tourism and hospitality. Ilie Bolojan welcomed Lithuanian investments in Romania," the statement said. Bolojan thanked Lithuania for supporting Romania's OECD accession, and at the end of the call invited the Lithuanian prime minister to pay a visit to Romania.
