AEP: The total number of citizens with voting right on 30 June up against 31 May

The total number of eligible voters registered in the Electoral Register as of June 30 is 19,027,733, an increase of 723 compared to May 31, when 19,027,010 Romanian voters were registered, according to a statement released Wednesday by the Permanent Electoral Authority (AEP). According to the AEP, the discrepancies arise as a result of routine operations carried out by mayors in the electoral register for the administrative-territorial units they lead.   Between June 1 and 30, the following removals were made from the electoral register at the municipal level: - 18,967 people were removed from the voter rolls due to death, in accordance with the provisions of Article 37 of Law No. 208/2015 on the election of the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies, as well as on the organization and functioning of the Permanent Electoral Authority, as subsequently amended and supplemented; - 137 people were removed from the voter registry pursuant to Article 39 of the same law, which pertains to the removal from the voter registry of voters who have been prohibited from exercising their right to vote or who have been placed under legal incapacitation.   At the same time, 48 people regained their voting rights following the expiration of their period of disqualification.   The number of voters who turned 18 between June 1 and 30 is 19,779; they were automatically registered in the Electoral Register by the Permanent Electoral Authority, based on information provided by the General Directorate for Personal Records (DGEP).   The AEP specifies that, of the total number of Romanian voters listed in the Electoral Register, 17,975,589 have their domicile or residence in the country, while 1,052,144 have their domicile abroad and hold a CRDS passport.According to Law No. 208/2015, the Electoral Register is a national computerized system for recording and updating the identification data of Romanian citizens eligible to vote and information regarding their assignment to polling stations. The Electoral Register is organized by counties, municipalities, towns, and communes for Romanian citizens who have their domicile or residence in the country. The persons authorized to perform operations in the Electoral Register covering Romanian citizens domiciled or residing in the country are mayors or persons designated by mayors, by order, in accordance with the law.
