Aerostar completes first Black Hawk maintenance for Romania’s Ministry of Internal Affairs

June 30, 2025

Aerostar has successfully completed the first Phase Maintenance Inspection (PMI) of a Black Hawk helicopter for Romania’s Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI), https://defence-industry.eu/ reports. The inspection was finalised ahead of schedule and marks a significant milestone for the Lockheed Martin-authorised maintenance, overhaul, and repair (MRO) centre. Previously, operators in Romania had to carry out these inspections at their own bases, but Aerostar’s certified capabilities now allow for more streamlined support. This change helps operators focus on daily operations, resulting in greater aircraft availability.   “Aerostar is committed to delivering exceptional services and supporting the growth of Romania’s aerospace industry, with the creation and support of highly skilled Romanian jobs,” said Alexandru Filip, Chief Executive Officer of Aerostar. “Our team’s expertise and dedication have enabled us to complete this inspection ahead of schedule, and we look forward to continuing our work with the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Sikorsky and other partners in the region.”   The company has already begun work on a second aircraft, with the MAI fleet used for missions including search and rescue, firefighting, transport, and emergency medical support. The recent PMI demonstrates Aerostar’s role in enhancing Romania’s ability to carry out such vital operations.   “Sikorsky is pleased to see the success of the first Black Hawk maintenance at Aerostar,” said Dr. Dennis Goege, Lockheed Martin Vice President and Chief Executive Europe. “By minimizing downtime and maximizing aircraft availability, Aerostar is ensuring Romanian aviators are ready for the next mission in support of Romanian security, public safety and disaster response.”   The S-70M Black Hawk is built to military standards and suited for the demanding missions required by the MAI. Manufactured by Lockheed Martin’s PZL Mielec facility in Poland, the aircraft play a key role in civil and defence operations across Europe and globally.   In 2024, Sikorsky secured a contract to supply another Black Hawk to support Romanian emergency and firefighting services. This addition will increase the MAI’s fleet to eight helicopters.
