Agra Asigurări announces record figures for damage claims. Over 41% of the insured reported losses this agricultural season

July 10, 2024

Agra Asigurări, the national leader in agricultural insurance, announces record numbers regarding damage claims for the agricultural year 2023-2024. In total, over 2400 damages have been reported due to the recent extreme meteorological phenomena Romania has faced.

June of this year marked a record regarding the total number of claims registered in a month. Over 1000 insured farmers reported significant damages to agricultural crops. According to data published by the National Meteorological Authority, this month, temperatures were higher than in July and August of last year, with an average temperature of 22.0°C, considering that the average temperature over the past 60 years has been 18.8°C. However, several areas of the country were affected by periods of atmospheric instability characterised by showers, storms, and hail, leading to yellow and orange weather alerts.

"Out of the 5880 policies issued, over 41% of the insured have reported damages. We are dedicated to supporting farmers in difficult times, and so far, we have settled claims for approximately 80% of the open cases. In these periods of climatic instability, it is crucial for farmers to be fully protected and to have a financial safety net to continue their businesses optimally," stated Horia Adrian-Lupu, CEO of Agra Asigurări.

Most damages were caused by hail, totalling over 909 claims, followed by 617 claims for storms and risks related to re-seeding packages (soil drought, sand/crust), with over 529 claims. The most affected counties were Constanța, Teleorman, and Olt, with 505, 181, and 178 claims respectively. Regarding crops, rapeseed was among the most affected, with 638 claims, followed by wheat with 328 claims and barley with 305 claims.
