Agriculture: EU cereal exports dropping , Romania the biggest exporter

Soft wheat exports in EU since the beginning of 2024/2025 season until March 23, 2025 have reached 15.46 million tons, on the drop by 35% compared to 23.75 million tons in the same period of 2024, according to data released by the European Commission.   According to these data, over July 1, 2025- March 23, 2025, Romania was by far the biggest soft wheat exporter in EU, with a quantity of 4.367 million tons, followed by Lithuania (2.166 million tons) and Latvia (1.864 million tons).   At the same time, corn exports in EU dropped by half, to 1.520 million tons over July 1, 2024 – March 23, 2025. In that case too, Romania is, by far, the biggest exporter, with 592,000 tons of corn, followed by Poland with 500,000 tons.   EU barley exports dropped by 21% yearly, to 3.644 million tons over July 1, 2024- March 23, 2025, from 4.587 million tons in the sama period of 2023-2024 season. In that case too, Romania is a leader in EU with exports f 1.539 million tons of barley since the beginning of the present season to the present.   As for imports, EC data show that EU soft wheat imports dropped by 14% annually, to 6.119 million tons, while corn imports went up by 12% to 15.369 million tons. Over July 1, 2024 – March 23, 2025, EU imported 3.987 million tons of soft wheat from Ukraine, on the drop compared to 4.995 million tons in the same period of 223-2024, while EU corn imports from Ukraine dropped to 8.808 million tons, from 9.106 million tons.
