Agriculture: Moldova and Romania – new step in promoting Black Sea wine area

  The National Wine and Vineyard Office of Moldova signed on Thursday, September 9, a collaboration memorandum with Romania's Chamber of Trade and Industry. The main objective of the accord is collaboration with Romanian producers with a view to promoting the Black Sea wine area and boost the wine and vineyard capital of the two countries, which share a joint history, customs, traditions and indigenous varieties.   The mission of the National Wine and Vineyard Office of Moldova is to offer support to wine producers in Moldova and to promote the “Wine of Moldova” brand, especially among consumers in Romania. By this new partnership, the institution reiterates the interest in establishing cooperation relations which serve the joint interest of both countries.   “Both Romania and Moldova have a huge capital and special important print in the area of wine production, and that is why we wish to be able to turn to account the authenticity, tradition, quality and joint specific of our wines and place our most precious products in the international market. The Romanian market is very important to us, we want to have an open collaboration with producers, encouraging consumption of wine produced in Moldova.   For the time being, Romania imports 10-12% of the wine it consumes, and signing this memorandum with the Romanian Chamber of Trade and Industry will allow collaboration with Romanian producers with a view to promoting wine products of the two countries in Asian or American markets and will strengthen mutual support relations between Moldova and Romania,” said Mrs Cristina Frolov, Director of the National Office of Wine Vine and Wine of Moldova.   Next to promoting markets in the Black Sea vine and wine area, signing this memorandum will allow the exchange of experience and information transfer in the vine and wine area, identifying new export opportunities, promoting the wine-tourist area so that by contributing to cooperation among institutions and increase of the wine segment both in Romania and Moldova.   *** About the National Vine and Wine Office (ONVV)   ONVV is a public institution, organized through a public-private partnership in the field of implementing policies in the vine and wine industry. The institution was conceived according to the model of similar institutions in the main wine producing countries.   The setting up of ONVV represented the decisive step made by the public and private sectors in implementing changes within the legislative frame of the vine and wine sector and promoting the brand “Wine of Moldova. A living legend”, which contributes to the recognition and promotion of Moldova's quality wine abroad.
