Almost 11 million people arrive in tourist accommodation facilities in Romania in the first nine months

More than 10.7 million people arrived in tourist accommodation facilities in Romania (including apartments and rooms for rent) in the first nine months of the year, up 12.1% compared to the same period in 2022, while the number of overnight stays rose by 11.5% to 23.324 million people, according to data published Thursday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).Arrivals of Romanian tourists in tourist accommodation facilities between January 1 and September 30, 2023 accounted for 84.8%, while those of foreign tourists were 15.2%. From the total number of overnight stays, during the period under analysis, Romanian tourists accounted for 85.1% of the total figure reported, and foreign tourists for 14.9%.According to the cited source, the average length of stay in the first nine months of 2023 was 2.2 days for Romanian tourists and 2.1 days for foreign tourists.The net utilization rate of tourist accommodation facilities was 31.5% of the total number of tourist accommodation structures (including apartments and rooms for rent), up by 1.5 percentage points compared to the same period last year.By counties, the number of tourist arrivals in tourist accommodation units (including apartments and rooms for rent) recorded higher values in: Constanta (1.497 million persons), Bucharest (1.353 million) and Brasov (1.137 million), while overnight stays in the same types of accommodation units recorded the highest values in the same cities, namely: Constanta (5.013 million overnight stays), Bucharest (2.682 million) and Brasov (2.156 million).By country, the highest number of arrivals of foreign tourists staying in tourist accommodation facilities (including apartments and rooms for rent) came from: Germany (174,200 persons), Israel (135,600 persons) and Italy (134,000 persons).Foreign tourist arrivals in Romania, registered at border points, at nine months, were 11.415 million people, up 18.8% compared to the same period in 2022.On the other hand, departures of Romanian tourists abroad, registered at border points, were 14.994 million people, up 13.3% compared to the same period last year.According to INS data, in September, arrivals in tourist accommodation facilities including apartments and rooms for rent totalled 1.31 million persons (+10.9% compared to September 2022), while overnight stays increased by 11% to 2.836 million.Out of the total number of arrivals, in September 2023, the arrivals of Romanian tourists in tourist accommodation units accounted for 83.3%, and the arrivals of foreign tourists for 16.7%.Out of the total number of overnight stays, in September 2023, the Romanian tourists' overnight stays in tourist accommodation establishments represented 84,4%, while the foreign tourists' overnight stays represented 15,6%.The average length of stay in September 2023 was 2.2 days for Romanian tourists and 2 days for foreign tourists.The net utilization rate of tourist accommodation in September 2023 was 31.1% of the total tourist accommodation units (including apartments and rooms for rent), up by 0.1 percentage points compared to September 2022.Arrivals of foreign visitors to Romania, registered at border points, in September 2023, totaled 1.349 million people, up by 15.8% compared to September 2022, and departures of Romanian visitors abroad exceeded 1.849 million people, up by 12.5%.
