Ambassador Nicolas Warnery: France is ready to establish industrial partnerships and contribute to the reconstruction of the defence industry in Romania

July 14, 2025

France is ready to establish industrial partnerships and, in this sense, to contribute to the reconstruction of the defence industry in Romania, stated on Monday the ambassador of France to Bucharest, Nicolas Warnery, in a speech delivered at the reception on the National Day of the French Republic.   "Romania has gone through a decisive presidential election. The people have spoken after a massive mobilisation. Their decision was sovereign. I respected the necessary diplomatic reserve until the end of the campaign, but I am happy to wish the new president, the new government and their teams every success today," he said.   The French ambassador underlined that "in the face of Russian aggression and attempts to destabilise countries in the region, we must remain united and mobilised, in solidarity with Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova".   „France is ready, together with the other members of the Coalition of the willing, to provide the necessary security guarantees to build a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in Ukraine”, he underlined, noting that "France is honoured to be here on Romanian territory as the framework nation of the NATO battle group, which also includes soldiers from Belgium, Spain and Luxembourg. The soldiers of the Aigle Force train every day, not to start a war, but on the contrary to guarantee peace".   As for the European Union, which seems "sometimes remote, inaccessible", "too complicated or too far removed from citizens", the ambassador called for a "simplification" of the rules so that "we make it easier to understand and closer to people". "This is the meaning of the simplification process which is one of the European priorities today - which is a very good thing," he emphasised.   Another big goal is to build a sovereign Europe, according to the French diplomat: "This means strengthening our competitiveness and energy independence, investing in the technologies of the future, re-launching our industry, protecting our agriculture and food sovereignty, taking care of the environment, fighting disinformation and preserving our identity".   As regards the bilateral relationship, the ambassador stressed that France strongly supports Romania's integration into the OECD.  (Photo: www.presidency.ro)
