Analysis: 250 lei monthly investment represents 4.3% of average net wages in Romania

October 5, 2026

A 250 lei monthly investment represents 4.3% of a net average salary of 5,820 lei, while a 500 lei contribution is the equivalent of 8.6% of that income, according to a specialized analysis released last week.   According to Freedom24 analysts, the Romanians' wages are growing, but inflation continues to limit the purchase power, leaving less space in the budget for savings and investments.   Access to investments does not depend on a certain salary level, but the amount of money everyone can constantly invest according to the personal budget and the period of time in which the investment can be maintained count much more, according to the study authors.   According to National Institute of Statistics (INS) data, the net average salary reached 5,820 lei in July 2026, 5.5% more than in July 2025. “Adjusted with inflation, the purchase power dropped by 2.5% in a year. Inflation pressure drops but is still high. The annual inflation rate dropped in August to 6.2% from 8.2% in July, while services became more expensive by 11.3% against the previous year,” the document shows.   In this context, the practical question for Romanians ineterested in investments is how much they can alocated every month after covering essential expenses and setting up a financial reserve.   “How much of the Romanians' income can be used for investments? The same amount invested on a monthly basis has a different share in the budget, according to the income level. For a Romanian with an income equal to the net average salary, 250 lei per month means about 4.3% of the income,” the document also mentions.   The same sum represents 6.3% of an income of 4,000 lei and 3.1% of an 8,000 lei income.   For a contribution of 250 lei/month, the amounts saved reach 15,000 lei in five years. In the cases analysed, the portfolio value could be about 16,550 lei for a 4% profit, 17,800 lei for 7% and 18,240 lei for 8%.Thus, the final value depends on the amounts deposited monthly.   When the investment period increases, the reinvestment effect becomes more visible. For 250 lei per month, contributions reach 30,000 lei in ten years, while the presumed portfolio value could be about 36,670 lei for a 4% profit, 42,760 lei for 7% and 45,030 lei for 8%.   Compared to the 5 year scenario, contributions are doubled, but the difference between the portfolio value and the amount of money deposited grows four times.   The calculation supposes equal monthly contributions, with the reinvestment of profits, and does not include commissions, taxes or the effect of exchange rate variations. The values are strictly illustrative and do not represent forecasts for future performances. The investment value can grow or ot can drop, while investors can recover less than they invested, analysis authors show.   Freedom24 is a company specialized in financial technology and stock market brokerage which connects European customers to the main international stock markets .
