Annual inflation rate rose to 5.7% in June

The annual inflation rate rose to 5.7% in June 2025, from 5.45% in May, as food prices rose by 7.36%, services by 7.05% and non-food goods by 3.9%, according to data published on Friday by the National Institute of Statistics.The consumer price index in June 2025 compared to May 2025 was 0.45% and the inflation rate since the beginning of the year (June 2025 compared to December 2024) was 3.1%. The average rate of change in consumer prices in the last 12 months (July 2024 - June 2025) compared to the previous 12 months (July 2023 - June 2024) was 5.1%.The annual inflation rate in June 2025 compared to June 2024 calculated based on the Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) was 5.8% and the average rate of change in consumer prices in the last 12 months (July 2024 - June 2025) compared to the previous 12 months (July 2023 - June 2024) determined based on the HICP was 5.3%.The National Bank of Romania warned on July 8 that the annual inflation rate will increase considerably in the coming months, under the transitory impact of the expiration of the electricity price cap scheme and the increase in VAT and excise rates starting August 1, standing well above the values ??indicated by the May 2025 forecast in the short term.In May, the central bank revised upwards, to 4.6%, from 3.8% previously, the inflation forecast for the end of 2025.
