Arafat (DSU) : It is a clear decrease of the Covid cases over the last week

December 13, 2021

The head of the Department for Emergencies (DSU), Raed Arafat stated on Friday that the latest week there was a clear decrease of the Sars-Covid 19 cases, but this decrease is not so obvious in the Intensive Therapy units.  ‘Over the latest week, on 5th November we had 8,268 cases, today we have 4,844 cases, so clearly there is a clear decrease of the positive cases over the last week. At the end of Intensive Care we had 1,877 now we have 1,733 – the decrease is not so obvious as the decrease of cases in general. We said that intensive care will have a longer impact and there will be a period of 2 and 3 weeks until we see a significant decrease as well’ Arafat said in a press conference. He said that there are still many deaths, even if there is a decrease, but as there are more patients who go to intensive care, the more the number of deaths will be significant.‘There are still patients who come to intensive care, even among the 4,800 of today, unfortunately, they will get to intensive care. Moreover, the patients in intensive care stay there for weeks, occupying the beds there and due to this  we need to find a supplementary absorption capacity’ Arafat said. The DSU head added that the report of the National Institute for Public Health shows that between 1st and 7th November, 90.2% of the deaths were of people who were not vaccinated, and during the same period, 69.7% of the cases were registered with non-vaccinated people. ‘Since the beginning of the pandemics until now, 85.8% of the deaths have been of people over 60’ Arafat said.
