The steel unit ArcelorMittal Hunedoara, which has permanently stopped production, signed an agreement with the UMB group owned by the well-known Romanian builder Dorinel Umbr?rescu, for the sale of its assets and the transfer of certain related debts, including environmental obligations, according to a current report submitted to the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB). Umbrarescu pays 12.5 million euros for the assets of the former steel giant, now shut down. By Decision no. 14/29.12.2025, the Board of Directors of the Company approved entering into a term sheet (“Agreement”) with UMB Steel S.R.L., a company headquartered in Bucharest, Str. Gheorghe Br?tianu no. 36, Sector 1, registered with the Trade Registry Office under no. J2007017312401, EUID ROONRC.J2007017312401, VAT ID 22417875 (“Buyer”), regarding the sale of all assets (movable and immovable) owned by the Company as of the sale date, for a total sale price of EUR 12,500,000 + VAT (“Sale Transaction”), according to the current report submitted to the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB). “The completion of the proposed transaction remains subject to the negotiation and signing of the final transaction documents, approval by the General Shareholders’ Meeting, obtaining regulatory authorizations, fulfilling the necessary environmental formalities, as well as completing other procedures in preparation for the planned sale. The potential sale follows the permanent cessation of production activities at the Hunedoara plant, approved by the shareholders on October 17, 2025,” according to ArcelorMittal Hunedoara officials. In mid-October, ArcelorMittal confirmed its final decision to permanently halt production at its Hunedoara plant, which manufactures angles and commercial profiles for the energy, construction, and infrastructure markets. “Following the closure announcement, ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih in Ukraine and a potential external buyer expressed interest in acquiring the Hunedoara plant. ArcelorMittal engaged in multiple discussions with these companies. As a result, a new business model was thoroughly evaluated, based on the flow of semi-finished steel from ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih to Hunedoara, which could allow the resumption of rolling operations. After careful analysis conducted in recent weeks, management concluded that this proposal would not enable ArcelorMittal Hunedoara to operate sustainably and profitably. Resuming operations without a guaranteed financial rationale would be irresponsible toward employees and stakeholders,” the ArcelorMittal statement from mid-October read.
