Army Chief of Staff: We continue to rely on the deterrent effect generated by a credible defensive capability

June 20, 2024

To reduce the likelihood, we continue to rely on the deterrent effect of a credible national and allied defensive capability. That is why we are continuing to press the accelerator pedal to strengthen the institution of national defence and to reinforce NATO's deterrence and defence posture," said Gheorghita Vlad at the opening of the Black Sea Defence Exhibition.   He added that the diminution of the present challenges of security need the continuation of the measures for the increase of the reaction capacity, through the appropriate endowment of the army.‘We are in peacetime, but the current reality is marked by complex security challenges (…). The diminution of the present challenges for security and meeting the challenges of the future requires continuing the responsiveness we are now achieving. A considerable party of this effort is reserved to the endowment of the force structure. The dynamic nature of the war will be counteracted by the ability to have at any moment efficient equipment through credible military procurement. At present, the Romanian Army needs a rational balance between classic equipment and new technologies, which is of major importance’ the general said.
