As many as 3,718 companies and self-employed persons go insolvent over Jan - July 2023

 The number of companies and self-employed persons (PFAs) going insolvent in the first seven months of 2023 was 5.44 percent down from the year-ago period, at 3,718, according to data published on the website of the National Trade Register Office (ONRC).Most insolvent companies and PFAs were reported in Bucharest City, at 729, up 9.95 percent from January - July 2022. Next in the insolvency ranking are the counties of Bihor - with 315 insolvencies (-5.97 pct), Cluj - 195 (-31.34 pct), Constanta - 180 (+20.81 pct), and Timis - 177 (-4.32 pct).The fewest insolvencies were recorded in the counties of Botosani - 11 (-45 pct), Covasna - 14 (-22.22 pct), and Harghita - 15 (-16.67 pct).By business activity, the largest number of insolvencies during the reporting period was in wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, specifically 1,036 (+0.88 pct); constructions - 735 (-3.92 pct); and in the manufacturing industry - 426 (-16.14 pct).
