Astra Film Festival to start with world premiere of documentary on Ukraine's Volodymyr Zelenskiy

  Astra Film Festival 30, the anniversary edition of the Astra Film Festival (AFF), will begin on Sunday, October 15, at the Thalia Hall in Sibiu, with the word premiere of a work-in-progress version of documentary "Meeting Zelenskiy" by Werner Herzog (director) and Andre Singer (producer).A work-in-progress version of the film 'Meeting Zelenskiy', by Werner Herzog (director) and Andre Singer (producer), that follows the remarkable journey of Volodymyr Zelensky during 30 years since the declaration of Ukraine's independence will run at the opening of the festival on Sunday, October 15. The event will take place in the presence of producer Andre Singer. After the film, there will be a debate moderated by author, publicist and diplomat Emil Hurezeanu.Tickets for this year's edition can be purchased from Tuesday.Running in the AFF2023 competitions and special events are 130 documentary films, most of them premieres, and dozens of other cinematographic events.Another projection-event will be of documentary "Calea Laptelui" (The Milk's Journey) by Dumitru Budrala. The film, presented in a work-in-progress version, is about the people of the mountains, about shepherding, transhumance and myths, about the paths taken by these keepers of millennial traditions.Another documentary event at this festival is "This Blessed Plot" (2023), a recent film by British director Marc Isaacs in which the dead and the living coexist and the border between this world and the next can be easily crossed.The film " Cities on Speed: Bogota Change," by Danish director Andreas Mol Dalsgaard, is a story about the metamorphosis that the capital of Colombia, once one of the most dangerous cities in the world, has been going through.The Astra Film Festival Sibiu, launched in 1993 as an innovative project, is one of the most important non-fiction film festivals in Europe. Held under the High Patronage of the President of Romania, the festival is organised by Astra Film, CNM Astra and the Astra Film Foundation, with the Ministry of Culture as a strategic partner, with support from the Sibiu County Council, the National Filmmaking Centre, the Romanian Cultural Institute, the Consulate of Germany in Sibiu and the Union of Romanian Filmmakers.The event is co-financed by the Sibiu City Council through the Sibiu City Hall.
