AtlasIntel Poll: George Simion Leads in One Presidential Scenario

May 8, 2025

Crin Antonescu makes a strong leap and surpasses Nicusor Dan in voting options, according to data from an AtlasIntel survey conducted for Hotnews.ro.   Even if the two reach the presidential final, the candidate of the governing alliance is the favorite. George Simion receives the most votes in the second round in a single scenario.   The research was conducted after the USR’s decision to no longer support Elena Lasconi’s candidacy for the presidential elections.   The joint candidate of AUR and POT, George Simion, would win the first round of the presidential elections on May 4, according the opinion poll . According to the research, Simion would take 33.4% of the votes, up from the previous AtlasIntel poll last month, when he was rated at 30.4%. With 24.7%, is Crin Antonescu (PSD-PNL-UDMR) ranks second, who has increased by almost 7 percentage points. Nicusor Dan is decreasing, from 26% to 21.2%, followed by Victor Ponta, with 9.7% and Elena Lasconi, with 5%. 3% of respondents say they are not voting, are canceling their vote or do not know, while another 2.2% would choose another candidate.   When only the options of those who are sure to vote are calculated, Simion is ranked with 34.4% of the votes, Crin Antonescu has 25.5%, and Nicusor Dan – 21.8%. Victor Ponta is still in 4th place, with 10%. Lasconi is at 5.2%. With percentages below 1%, Daniel Funeriu and Lavinia sandru also appear.   If a month ago, Nicusor Dan received the most votes in the second round against any opponent, now things have changed. The Mayor of the Capital gathers more options than George Simion, but would receive fewer votes than Crin Antonescu. The only opponent against whom Simion would receive more votes is Victor Ponta.   The AtlasIntel survey was conducted between April 10-13, 2025 on a sample of 2,994 respondents.    According to a CURS poll conducted between April 3 and 10, 2025, George Simion would win the first round of the presidential elections on May 4 with a score of 26%. Crin Antonescu would also enter the final on May 18 with 23%. The two are followed by Nicusor Dan (19%), Victor Ponta (16%), Elena Lasconi (8%) and Cristian Terhes (3%).
