October 30, 2025

The Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Australian Parliament, Milton Dick, will pay a visit to Bucharest October 12-15, 2025, at the head of a delegation made up of five representatives of the Federal Parliament. This is the highest level visit from Australia to Romania in recent decades, according to the Romanian Embassy in Canberra. In preparation for the visit, the Romanian ambassador to Australia, Radu Gabriel Safta, had a meeting on Thursday with Dick to discuss aspects of the visit of the Australian delegation to Romania, which is scheduled to meet senior Romanian officials. In addition to the bilateral agenda, the visit of the Australian delegation will include discussions on cooperation between the EU and its member states and Australia, as well as between NATO and Australia, in the framework of the NATO-IP4 cooperation format (Australia, Japan, New Zealand, Republic of Korea)."I am convinced that this high-level visit will pave the way for a new chapter in the further development of bilateral relations between Romania and Australia, as like-minded democratic states that uphold the rules-based international order. The presence of the Honorable Milton Dick in Bucharest is the result of multiple bilateral actions carried out at different levels over the past years and demonstrates the joint commitment of the two states to consolidate and diversify the areas of cooperation," Safte is quoted as saying in a press release. On the occasion of meeting Dick, Safta signed the book of honour of the House of Representatives. The Australian parliamentary delegation led by Dick in Bucharest will consist of five representatives from the Australian Federal Parliament, including Mrs. Sharon Claydon, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, and will be accompanied by Alison Duncan, Australia's non-resident ambassador to Romania.Australia's parliament is bicameral, consisting of the House of Representatives and the Senate.
