Approximately 57% of Romanians agree that the country should allocate 5% of GDP to Defence, as requested by NATO, while 38% do not support this view, according to a survey conducted by the Avangarde Group for Socio-Behavioural Studies.The study was carried out between 8 and 14 September, on a sample of 1,000 respondents, using the CATI method (Computer Assisted Telephone Interviewing), with a maximum margin of error of ?3.4%, at a 95% confidence level.Almost half (47%) of respondents believe that, given the current geopolitical and military context, it is possible that the Russian Federation could attack Romania, while 43% do not share this opinion.More than a third (37%) of those surveyed said that Romania should not get involved at all regarding the Russian Federation's aggression against Ukraine, and that any support should be limited to humanitarian aid. A third (33%) believe that Romania should become more involved, and 26% think that the current level of involvement is sufficient.Furthermore, 51% of respondents said they are dissatisfied with President Nicusor Dan's handling of foreign policy in his first months in office. 43% said that they are satisfied, while 6% said they could not assess his performance.Regarding the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 51% expressed dissatisfaction, 38% said they are satisfied, while 11% could not assess.Almost half (47%) of Romanians believe that the Republic of Moldova should eventually reunite with Romania, while 46% oppose this idea.Among foreign political leaders, Maia Sandu and Donald Trump enjoy the highest level of trust (44%), followed by Emmanuel Macron (40%), Ursula von der Leyen (39%), Volodymyr Zelensky (37%), Keir Starmer (36%), Xi Jinping (33%), Viktor Orban (29%) and Vladimir Putin (18%).In terms of perceived international friendship, 13% of respondents believe that the Republic of Moldova is Romania's closest ally. Other countries mentioned include: France (11%), the USA and Germany (5%), Italy (4%), Bulgaria and Serbia (3%), Spain and China (2%), and Russia (1%).In the ranking of trust in international organisations, NATO is at the top with 74%, followed by the EU (62%), the UN (61%), the European Commission and European Parliament (57%) and BRICS (27%).Over a third (38%) of respondents believe that Israel is justified in its conflict with Palestine. 11% side with Palestine, while 41% believe that neither side is in the right.
