BCR: Romania sets new Guinness World Record with biggest financial education lesson held simultaneously

November 2, 2018

Romanians managed to set a new Guinness World Record, after on Wednesday, 31 October, on International Day of Savings, a total of 13,230 people from 25 cities in the country participated in the biggest financial education lesson, announced the initiator of this action, Romanian Commercial Bank / Banca Comerciala Romana (BCR), in a press release issued on Thursday. The record was approved on Thursday morning by Guinness World Records. In order for the record to be validated, it was necessary for at least 5,624 people to participate simultaneously, this being the number of participants registered in 2013 at a similar initiative, in the USA. “The record belongs to the Romanians and to Romania, the success is ours, of all those who trust that the path to prosperity goes through education, the path to financial independence goes through education. The record belongs to the people who entered classrooms and to those who wanted but did not make it. The record belongs to my colleagues who demonstrate also on this occasion that banking firstly means people and communities around a joint mission. We are proud to have contributed by exemplary mobilization of my colleagues in the bank to organizing an event of this magnitude across the country. Romania needs trust, and this trust is born out of achievements, comes when we demonstrate that we can mobilize together for an important cause for the future of each of us. Our responsibility is to make resources available, especially educational ones, in order to contribute to creating prosperity in Romania,” said Sergiu Manea, the CEO of BCR.
