A new company focused on the development of biogas plants across Romania, BSOG Energy SRL, has been set up by Black Sea Oil & Gas S.A. (BSOG), together with its shareholders, global investment firm Carlyle and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), BSOG said in a press release sent on Wednesday. The newly-established BSOG Energy SRL, headquartered in Bucharest, will develop biogas plants nationwide, with each site estimated to have a capacity of at least 15 MW."Biogas plays an important role in the energy transition, eliminating the significant impact of pollution caused by the disposal of organic waste on land and landfills, while at the same time ensuring substantial reductions in greenhouse gas emissions by transforming naturally occurring methane into a usable, domestically produced fuel. Romania has significant potential in the biogas industry, but little development in the field so far. By combining expertise in feedstock, design, procurement and access to green credits and combining this with BSOG's expertise to implement projects in Romania, we believe BSOG Energy is uniquely positioned to create a strong and broad-scale biogas delivery platform in the region. A strong biogas industry in Romania has the potential to increase local zero-carbon gas production, turning agricultural waste into new sources of income for the agricultural sector, as well as helping to create new jobs," said Mark Beacom, CEO of BSOG and Managing Director of BSOG Energy.Basically, biogas results from the industrial processing through anaerobic digestion of agricultural residues and other organic waste such as manure, straw and food waste.Black Sea Oil & Gas S.A, owned by Carlyle and EBRD, is an independent energy company based in Romania, which, as the Holder (70%) and Operator, has put into production the Midia Natural Gas Development (MGD) project, the first of its kind, to develop natural gas from the Romanian Black Sea continental shelf built in the last 30 years.
