BlueSpace Technology starts engine of first armored vehicle made entirely in Romania

December 14, 2025

The BlueSpace Technology company presented on Friday the prototype of the first armored vehicle made entirely in Romania, and the first vehicle intended for series production could be ready at the end of the first quarter of 2026."The way in which public opinion reacted to VLAH, the first armored vehicle manufactured in Romania, demonstrates how great the need is for such a modular platform that can offer the Romanian defense industry flexibility, rapid maintenance and reasonable costs, Constantin Pintilie, CEO of BlueSpace Technology, said at the launch event organized in Moreni.According to a press release sent by the company, VLAH - the Automatic Autonomous Combat Vehicle, is a modular platform, with a total weight of 10 tons, an autonomy of up to 600 kilometers and can reach a maximum speed of 110km/h. The cabin offers protection for a crew of 5, and the armor meets NATO standards for ballistic and mine protection. At this moment, the vehicle is in full configuration, marking the official entry of the project into the system configuration, testing and approval stage."'Because it can be done in Romania' should become the registered trademark of our country. We need to lift the veil from the eyes of decision-makers and show the real capacity of Romanian engineering and innovation. We believed in this project from the beginning. It depends on us what future VLAH will have", declared the Secretary General of the Government, Stefan-Radu Oprea, quoted in the press release. Also, during the event, a panel discussion entitled "Strategic Innovation in Defense - Because it can be done in Romania" was held, where the perspectives and challenges of strategic innovation in the Romanian defense industry were discussed, together with leaders and experts in the defense and research fields."If we continue to demand similar experience in defense procurement, no Romanian company will have a real chance. We must support ourselves, through ourselves," said former Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca and former Minister of National Defense, present at the event. In turn, Mihnea-Claudiu Drumea, Secretary of State at the Prime Minister's Chancellery, conveyed that the SAFE mechanism obliges Romania to make an important legislative change to everything that the defense industry and public procurement mean, noting that this process is already underway. Also, the mayor of Moreni Municipality, Gabriel Purcaru, stated that all decision-makers "must put their shoulder to the wheel" for this project to move forward. "VLAH is not a city project, it is a country project. We consider ourselves lucky that VLAH is in our backyard - it is a chance for Moreni to get on the EU and NATO map", Gabriel Purcaru argued.Regarding the next steps after the prototype launch, the CEO of BlueSpace Technology emphasized that the Zero Series VLAH will follow, in which all the modifications deemed necessary and encountered during the prototype's development will be implemented."At the end of the first quarter of 2026, we estimate that we will have a machine ready for series production. The next objective will be to industrialize the production line to produce 200 machines per year in the country, in Moreni," Constantin Pintilie added.Over 200 high-ranking representatives of Romanian state institutions, officials of central and local authorities, specialists and experts from the national and international defense industry took part today in the official presentation event of the VLAH prototype, an event during which the BlueSpace Technology team started the engine of the first armored vehicle made 100% in Romania.
