Acting Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan received a delegation from the international financial rating agency Standard & Poor's at Victoria Palace on Thursday; the delegation is visiting Bucharest as part of the periodic assessment of Romania's economic and fiscal developments.According to a government statement, the meeting addressed the current political context and Romania's fiscal-budgetary situation?which is on a trajectory toward balancing and stabilizing public finances?noting that the budget deficit for the first seven months of 2026 decreased by over 28 billion lei compared to the same period last year, a trend confirmed by budget execution data."Last year and during the first part of this year, we took measures to address the public spending situation; their implementation led to a reduction in the budget deficit and ensured compliance with the commitments Romania made to its external partners. The outlook for 2027 will depend on how next year's budget is structured. If we maintain the current government's policy direction?and preserving it is vital for the health of the economy?we can continue on the path of reducing the budget deficit," stated Bolojan, as quoted in the press release. The Head of Government emphasized that the budget adjustment must be supported by changes that yield long-term results: a more efficient administration, reformed state-owned enterprises, better-prioritized public spending, and investments that generate economic growth. One example is the state-owned enterprise sector, where improving performance, reducing budget subsidies, and increasing profitability must remain priorities, the statement explains. At the same time, the interim Prime Minister maintained that continuing the reforms undertaken by the current government is also essential for upholding Romania's external credibility, including among investors."I am optimistic that the politicians with an interest in Romania remaining stable will continue the line of government policies aimed at maintaining balance and reducing the budget deficit," Bolojan stated. The meeting was attended by Minister of Finance Alexandru Nazare, Director General of the State Treasury Stefan Nanu, and the Prime Minister's honorary advisor Ionut Dumitru.
