The president of the Senate, Ilie Bolojan stated on Friday night that it is possible that next week, the Standing Offices of the two chambers of the parliament reunite to request the suspension of president Klaus Iohannis, saying that this is a political game. 'The two petitions that have been submitted so far did not fulfil the basic conditions, in the sense that they had to be submitted to both chambers. They were only submitted to one chamber the first time and only a week and a few days later to the second chamber, and the second application did not have the required number of signatures because in the meantime, by the time the sitting was organised, two of those who had signed, which was the exact number, had withdrawn their signatures. Therefore, there were actually some, shall we say, bureaucratic reasons, if I could call it that. Now this request has all the signatures and I believe that next week, according to the procedure, a joint Bureau of the two chambers will be organised, which, noting that the conditions for convening the joint plenary are met, this request will be put on the agenda', said Bolojan, in an interview broadcast by Antena 3. The president of the Senate reiterated that the request for suspension of the head of state is ‘a political game’. The president is at the end of his mandate so he has had a public image for the last ten years, all presidents of Romania when they finished their mandate, they were no longer at the prime of the youth, so with a decreased rate of trust. This is the reality (…). But any political game has its limits as long as the balance of the coutry is kept and an institutional stability is ensured. Think that president Iohannis has, in any context, I don’t know, at most 100 days of mandae, so it does not influence, so to speak, under any form things as they happen and this is the situation’ Bolojan said. The Young People's Party (POT) announced on Wednesday that they lodged again the request and the signatures for the suspension of president Klaus Iohannis, at the Deputies’ Chamber and at the Senate. The request is signed by 178 MPs from POT, AUR (Alliance for the Union of Romanians), SOS Romania and USR (Save Romania Union). The POT leader, Anamaria Gavrila stated, in a post on her Facebook page that there added another 26 signatures of USR MPs.
