Bolojan: Romania needs a government; this interim situation has gone on for too long

Romania needs a government, the interim situation has gone on for too long, stated on Friday the interim premier Ilie Bolojan who mentioned that the last months have represented a ‘ very difficult’ period as the executive has been left without full rights.He reiterated that PNL will not be part of a government with PSD. At the same time, Bolojan expressed his doubt if there could be early elections over the period to come.'Should the deadlock persist, the solution provided for by the Constitution – and applicable in all democratic systems – is to hold early elections. If no such solution is found (to support a government – ed.), this is the only option provided for by our Constitution and, even though I am very sceptical that they could become a reality in the near future, we have no choice but to end up in such a situation,’ the acting Prime Minister explained to Prima News.   According to him, the last few months have been a ‘very difficult’ period, as the Government was left without full powers just three months before the PNRR programme came to an end.   ‘We find ourselves in a situation where the interim period has dragged on for too long, because it would have been better to find a way to form a Government as quickly as possible. It was a very difficult period, because this Government was left without full powers precisely during the final three months of the PNRR programme’s closure. And it is not easy to bring such a programme to a close, with all that this entails in terms of legislative proposals, government decisions and organisational measures, in such a way that the work is completed on time under these circumstances,’ added Bolojan.   The PNL leader added that there are no guarantees that PSD representatives will change their behaviour in future, given that they ‘lied to’ the President and failed to honour their promises.   ‘Romania needs a government – that much is crystal clear. But just think about the way in which, including on the pay bill, the PSD lied to the President, promised things which they subsequently reneged on, took part in all the discussions but claimed they didn’t know what was being discussed, (...) what guarantees are there that, once in government, they will change their behaviour? ‘No guarantees,’ he said.(Photo:https://gov.ro/)
