Bucharest leads the top contribution of administrative-territorial units to Romania's trade

The companies with registered office in Bucharest exported, in the first five months of this year, goods worth 8.1 billion euro, representing 20.35% of Romania’s export, surpassing by 13.5% the value made during the similar period of 2022, superior to the increase of Romanian export during the respective period (7.5%) according to a press release of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Bucharest (CCIB). CCIB mentions as source of the most statistic data announced by the Romanian Agency for Investments and Foreign Commerce (ARICE) regarding the evolution of the commercial exchanges of Romania per counties, on 30th May 2023.As compared to the similar period of 2022, the share of Bucharest in Romania’s export grew on 30th May by a percentage point, worth one billion euro.Bucharest, which surpasses the fifth part of Romania’s export was followed in the top by the counties : Timis with 10.09%, Arges - 7,79%, Bra?ov - 5,13%, Arad - 4,33%, Ilfov - 4,23%, Dolj - 3,61%, Alba - 3,57%, Sibiu - 3,47%, Prahova - 3,13%, Bihor - 3,04%, Cluj - 2,82%, Olt - 2,47%, Constan?a - 2,41% and Maramure? 2,01%. The share of these 15 counties in Romania’s export was 78.45% while the rest of 27 were worth only 21.55% (nine counties with shares between 1.81% and 1.05%, the rest of 18 having between 0.85% and 0.06%).The main groups of goods exported by the companies with registered office in Bucharest were: machinery and apparatus, electrical equipment and parts(25%), products of the plant kingdom (19.9%), mineral products (14.2%), products of the chemical industry (6.9%), foodstuffs, beverages, spirits and vinegar, tobacco and manufactured tobacco substitutes (5.8%), base metals and articles (5%), vehicles and auxiliary transport equipment (4%), instruments and optical appliances (3.1%), textiles (2.5%), footwear, hats, umbrellas (1.8%) these ten groups accounting for 88.2% of exports by companies in Bucharest.On the import side, companies with registered offices in Bucharest registered a value of 16.1 billion euros, accounting for 31.81% of Romania's imports between 1 January and 30 May 2023, representing an increase of 5.1% compared to the first 5 months of 2022. Bucharest, which accounts for almost a third of total imports, was followed in this top at a great distance by the counties of Ilfov - 9.60%, Timi? - 7.02%, Arge? - 4.36%, Cluj - 3.69%, Prahova - 3.56%, Bra?ov - 3.49%, Constan?a - 3.44%, Arad - 2.88%, Bihor - 2.61%, Alba - 2.55%, Sibiu - 2.33%, Dolj - 2.22% and Mure? - 2.05%. The share of these 14 counties in Romania's imports was 81.61%, while the remaining 28 counties accounted for 18.39% (6 counties between 1.38% and 1.02% and the remaining 22 counties with shares between 0.98% and 0.08%). In terms of the structure of the goods imported by the companies with head office in Bucharest, the main groups that are found in the statistics for the period under analysis were: machinery and apparatus, electrical equipment and parts (24%), chemical industry products (17.5%), food products, beverages, alcoholic liquids and vinegar, tobacco (7.8%), mineral products (7.7%), vehicles, aircraft, vessels and transport equipment (7.3%), base metals and articles (6.4%), textiles (5.5%), these 7 product groups held a 76.2% share of imports by Bucharest firms.   "As a conclusion to the above data, it results that Bucharest firms carried out in the first 5 months of 2023, international trade operations worth 24.2 billion euros, representing 26.8% of our country's foreign trade. Timis County ranked second with a share of 8.4% and Ilfov County third with 7.2%," the CCIB says.
