BVB's Hanga: Bucharest Stock Exchange had nearly 270,000 open accounts by mid-year

October 13, 2025

The Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB) had nearly 270,000 open accounts by mid-year, up from 53,000 in 2019, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Bucharest Stock Exchange Radu Hanga said on Friday at the Financing & IPO Summit 2025, an event dedicated to entrepreneurs."The BVB Arena project is designed to be the antechamber for companies approaching the Stock Exchange, a stage for local entrepreneurs, where we help them become more visible and, at the same time, familiarise themselves with the Bucharest Stock Exchange ecosystem. Twenty companies that have gone through the BVB Arena project have been listed on the Bucharest Stock Exchange. Cris-Tim recently announced its intention to come to the Bucharest Stock Exchange, Christian Tour has also recently announced its listing, and we are expecting them on the market. IT Genetics is another one planned for the near future. When we look at the Stock Exchange itself, we see a mechanism that works, a mechanism that is growing in terms of liquidity. We see a market that is increasing in terms of the number of participants, because the Bucharest Stock Exchange is a communication platform, and the value of any communication platform is determined by the size and reach of the audience it can provide. We are looking at a stock exchange that had a minimum of 53,000 investors at the end of 2019, and now, the latest figure we have for mid-year shows nearly 270,000 open accounts, and we are seeing a growth rate of 10,000 to 15,000 new accounts opened per quarter," Hanga said. The BVB Chairman underlined that capital markets are an important source of financing for the European economy. In his view, the harmonisation of rules and improved cooperation across European markets to facilitate capital flows between them will be a positive development, including for company financing."The capital market is not just about financing. It is also about communication, positioning, visibility. We know that any company, when growing, needs, among other things, capital, but also people, a strong team, a good idea, and for the market to perceive and recognise what it is doing. The capital market is a stage that helps companies grow; it puts them in the spotlight. Looking at those of you who are entrepreneurs, you know how valuable this is. And looking back at ourselves, I am glad to see that what we are doing reflects this," added the BVB Chairman. The Vertik Group, which includes the management consultancy company Vertik and the Vertik for the Future Association, a development and investment initiative hub, has launched the Financing & IPO Summit 2025, an event dedicated to entrepreneurs seeking to diversify their funding sources.
