Cargus, one of Romania’s leading courier companies, recorded a 15% rise in delivery volumes over the Black Friday weekend, 7-10 November, compared to the same period in 2024. In total, the company delivered almost half a million parcels per day nationwide. These results confirm the positive trend of the e-commerce market and highlight Cargus’s strong operational performance during one of the busiest delivery periods of the year.
The highest increases in parcel volumes were seen in Bucharest (+22%), followed by Cluj-Napoca (+5.5%), Timișoara (+5%), and the cities of Iași, Brașov, and Constanța (+4%), according to Cargus data. During this period, Romanian consumers mostly ordered fashion and footwear items for the winter season, followed by technology products - such as TVs, gadgets, and accessories - and car tyres, a category that consistently grows at this time of year.
”This year’s results confirm that our investments in infrastructure, technology, and international partnerships directly translate into operational performance and sustainable growth. The positive momentum of the past two months has been driven mainly by international clients integrated into the Cargus network, and our logistics infrastructure is well equipped to support these growing volumes. Over 90% of Cargus parcels are delivered within 24 to 48 hours, even during peak periods”, said Belgin Bactali, CEO of Cargus.
For International Black Friday, scheduled for 28 November, Cargus expects another surge in activity driven by international clients, with parcel volumes at least matching, or even exceeding, those of the previous weekend - representing an increase of around 15% compared to a normal period. The company also anticipates a steady flow of orders through to 23 December, as the winter holidays approach. Through the Cargus SHIP & GO network, which includes over 2,000 locations nationwide, customers can easily collect their parcels, benefiting from fast and flexible deliveries, even during high-demand periods.
For most Romanians, Black Friday has become more about making practical purchases than chasing deals. Almost a third (30.5%) say they are still motivated by big discounts, while a quarter (25.5%) use the occasion to buy products they have postponed due to price, and 13% plan to make purchases they immediately need, according to the latest Cargus survey, conducted on a sample of 1,036 urban respondents. Price remains the main selection criterion for 88% of respondents, followed by delivery costs (26%) and other customers’ reviews (22%). Meanwhile, 14% also consider delivery time and return policies when placing Black Friday orders.
