New car registrations increased in Romania by 2.7% in April this year compared with the same period in 2025, while the electrified segment recorded a 26.3% jump, according to the Association of Automobile Manufacturers and Importers (APIA) preliminary data.According to official statistics, based on figures centralised by the General Directorate for Driving Licenses and Registrations (DGPCI), the total passenger car market declined by 14.7% in the first four months of 2026 compared with the same period last year.In April, new car registrations rose by 2.7% compared with April 2025, while electrified vehicles recorded a 26.3% increase, within which fully electric cars reported a 205% surge to 639 units.The ranking of newly registered car brands is led by Dacia, with 1,711 units, followed by Toyota (1,062), Volkswagen (913), Skoda (775), Mercedes-Benz (445), Hyundai (396), BMW (394), Renault (366), Chery (356) and Ford (353).In the car model segment, the top three positions are occupied, in order, by Dacia Duster, with 726 newly registered units, Toyota Corolla (459) and Dacia Logan (306).The Association of Automobile Manufacturers and Importers is a non-profit organisation, a representative entity in Romania's automotive industry, founded in 1994 and a member of the International Organisation of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (OICA) since 1996.
