Cars: Electric vehicle market maintains solid growth in July amid increasingly diverse range of models

   Romania's electric vehicle market returned to a more balanced growth rate in July, following the record high recorded the previous month, while continuing to confirm strong consumer interest in electric mobility and the expansion of the range available on the local market, according to data published by one of the major players in the electric mobility sector.According to an analysis by Lektri.Co, 1,526 validated electric vehicles were registered in July, including 1,399 passenger cars and 127 electric vans. Out of a total of 44,496 vehicles registered, regardless of powertrain, electric vehicles accounted for 3.43% of the market.After deducting 171 deregistered EVs, the net figure for the month stood at 1,355 electric vehicles, equivalent to 3.05% of total relevant registrations. At the same time, Romania's electric vehicle fleet reached an estimated total of 73,307 active electric vehicles.'After the peak reached in June, it was only natural for the market to return to a pace closer to the average of recent months. What is important, however, is that interest in electric mobility remains steady, while competition is becoming increasingly balanced. We are seeing a market that is no longer decisively influenced by one or two models, but by increasingly comprehensive portfolios developed by both established manufacturers and new players. This diversification is one of the clearest signs of the maturation of Romania's electric vehicle market,' said Claudiu Suma, CEO of Lektri.Co, as quoted in the analysis.Tesla retained its leading position in July, although at lower volumes compared with the record recorded in June. The Model Y ranked first, with 141 units registered, followed by the Tesla Model 3, with 123 units.BYD continued to strengthen its position on the Romanian market through an increasingly diverse range. The Dolphin Surf climbed to third place, with 97 units, while the Sealion 7 ranked fourth, with 74 registrations. The Mercedes-Benz CLA Electric completed the top five, with 53 units, marking one of the strongest performances of the month.The Hyundai Kona Electric maintained a steady presence in the rankings, with 46 units, followed by the Mazda 6e, with 41 registrations. The MG4 Electric entered the ranking of the fastest-growing models, reaching 40 units, while the Ford Puma Gen-E recorded 38 registrations, confirming the expansion of the US manufacturer's electric range. The BYD Atto 2 and Renault Zoe shared tenth place, with 31 units each.In terms of the estimated electric vehicle fleet as of 31 July, Dacia retained its leading position, with 18,611 active electric vehicles and an estimated market share of 25.39%, followed by Tesla, which reached 13,594 units and an 18.54% share, steadily narrowing the gap between the top two brands.Volkswagen, Renault and Hyundai completed the top five, with 5,898 units (8.05%), 5,466 units (7.46%) and 4,588 units (6.26%), respectively.Places 6-10 were occupied by Mercedes-Benz (3,206 units), BMW (2,814 units), Ford (2,791 units), BYD (1,966 units) and Nissan (1,436 units). BYD's growth remains one of the most striking in the market, with the manufacturer approaching the threshold of 2,000 active electric vehicles and consolidating its position among Romania's leading electric vehicle brands.In conclusion, although growth has slowed compared with the record recorded in June, Romania's electric vehicle market remains on an upward trajectory, supported simultaneously by Chinese brands, traditional European manufacturers and models that are already well established on the local market.
