Cars: New passenger car registrations up 19.7pct in Q3

 New passenger car registrations increased by 19.7% in the third quarter of 2025, compared to the same period last year, the National Institute of Statistics (INS) reports on Tuesday.INS data also show that, in the same period, new commercial vehicle registrations increased by 15.5% compared to the third quarter of 2024, and new cars represented 30.8% of total new car registrations, by 4.0 per cent more than in the same period last year.Compared to the second quarter of 2025, in the third quarter of 2025, new car registrations recorded an increase of 9.3% in passenger cars and a decrease of 2.3% in commercial vehicles.In the third quarter of 2025, compared to the third quarter of 2024, new passenger car registrations saw increases in all categories as follows: in the category of buses and minibuses - by 36.4%, in the category of mopeds and motorcycles - by 22.6% and in the category of passenger cars - by 19.4%.As regards new passenger car registrations, increases were recorded in all categories as follows: in the category of buses and minibuses - by 52.3%, in the category of cars - by 37.3% and in the category of mopeds and motorcycles - by 21.8%.Regarding new registrations of commercial vehicles, increases were recorded in all categories. Thus, in the category of trailers and semi-trailers by 20.1%, in the category of tractors by 14.5% and in the category of trucks (including road vehicles for special purposes) by 12.0%.New registrations of commercial vehicles also saw increases in all categories: in the category of tractors by 25.3%, in the category of trailers and semi-trailers by 20.6% and in the category of trucks (including road vehicles for special purposes) by 7.1%."Cars classified according to European pollution standards, registered in circulation, included, at the end of the third quarter of 2025, 65.4% of vehicles with Euro 4, Euro 5 or Euro 6 pollution standards and 9.8% of vehicles with Non-Euro pollution standards," show INS data.For the passenger car category, the largest share was held by vehicles compliant with the European Euro 4 standard, respectively 32.5%; for the buses and minibuses category, most vehicles, respectively 22.3%, were classified in the Euro 6 standard, and for the mopeds and motorcycles category, most vehicles, respectively 22.2%, were classified as Non-Euro.Vehicles complying with the European Euro 3 standard predominated for the truck category at 26.6%, those complying with the Euro 6 standard were predominant for the tractor category at 46.7%, while for the special purpose road vehicles category most vehicles, respectively 21.6%, were classified in the Non-Euro standard.
