June 17, 2025

Cooperation between Romania and the Republic of Korea in the field of heavy and defence industries represents a strategic opportunity for both countries, in the context in which the volume of bilateral trade saw a significant increase in recent years, exceeding one billion euros in 2024, stated the president of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania (CCIR), Mihai Daraban.According to a press release sent on Friday, the president of the CCIR had, on May 15, an official meeting with Jae Rak Kim, vice president of Hyundai Heavy Industries, as part of the National Chamber's strategy to promote foreign investments in economic sectors with high added value. The dialogue between the two organizations represented a significant opportunity, including in terms of promoting the capacities of the Romanian heavy and defence industry on markets outside the European Union and, at the same time, supported the CCIR's strategic objective of internationalizing Romanian business, the same source specifies.During the discussions, the CCIR head presented in detail the potential of the Romanian naval industry, as well as the advantages of our country's geostrategic position, emphasising that "despite the difficult period it is currently going through, Romania has remarkable potential both economically and in terms of highly qualified personnel."For his part, Jae Rak Kim, vice president of Hyundai Heavy Industries, emphasised that, following thorough documentation, Romania is "a very serious business partner, with a very well-prepared business environment and, at the same time, a solid tradition in heavy industry."In his opinion, these are essential elements for the development of complex projects in this field. "We are convinced that this relationship must be capitalised on and transformed into a strategic partnership beneficial to both parties," Jae Rak Kim pointed out. (Photo: https://ccir.ro/)
