Code Orange for extreme heat in 12 counties plus Bucharest, Thursday morning to Friday morning

The National Meteorological Administration (ANM) issued on Wednesday a Code Orange weather warning for extreme heat and heightened thermal discomfort, covering 12 counties and the municipality of Bucharest, valid from Thursday at 10:00 a.m. until Friday at 10:00 a.m.In addition, ANM issued two Code Yellow warnings for high temperatures across much of the country ? the first valid from 25 June at 10:00 a.m. until 26 June at 10:00 a.m., and the second from 26 June at 10:00 a.m. until 27 June at 10:00 a.m.The Code Orange warning applies to Banat, Oltenia, and the southern half of Muntenia, where the heatwave will intensify. Conditions will be extremely hot with severe thermal discomfort, and the temperature-humidity index (THI) is expected to exceed the critical threshold of 80 units. Maximum daytime temperatures will reach 38-40°C, while nighttime lows will range between 20 and 24°C, marking tropical nights.Counties under the Code Orange alert include: Timis, Caras-Severin, Mehedinti, Gorj, Valcea, Dolj, Olt, Teleorman, Giurgiu, Calarasi, Ilfov and the municipality of Bucharest, as well as parts of Ialomita.According to the Code Yellow warning valid from Thursday morning to Friday morning, the heatwave will continue in Crisana, south-western and southern Transylvania, northern and north-eastern Muntenia, Dobrogea and southern Moldova, bringing hot weather, high thermal discomfort, and THI values slightly exceeding the critical threshold. Maximum temperatures will generally be between 35 and 37°C, and minimums between 17 and 20°C.According to ANM, the heatwave will persist over much of the country.
